Day Trips From Verona: Lake Garda and the Dolomites During Marmomac Week

Four days at Marmomac can make Verona feel like the entire world.

And honestly, it can be. Between meetings, exhibition halls, and endless conversations, it’s easy to forget there’s a whole region outside the fairgrounds. But if you have an extra morning, a free afternoon, or even a full day after Marmomac, day trips from Verona put a lot of northern Italy within reach.

Here are three options, depending on how much time (and energy!) you have left.

Lake Garda: The Easy Escape

If you only have an afternoon, Lake Garda is probably your best bet.

It’s close enough to Verona that sightseeing doesn’t have to turn into a second full-time job. Head toward the southern shore and you can spend time in Sirmione, walking its historic streets, taking in the lake views, and exploring its Roman archaeological remains.

It’s the kind of trip that gives you a change of scenery without costing you an entire day. And if you have more time, keep going north; the further you go, the more dramatic the landscape becomes as the lake gradually gives way to mountains.

The Dolomites: Give Them a Full Day

The Dolomites are a different story.

This isn’t the “I have three hours between meetings” option. Getting there from Verona can take several hours, and traffic can make that journey longer. But if you’re staying an extra day, the landscape is worth the commitment.

Cortina d’Ampezzo and the surrounding mountains offer a completely different way of experiencing the limestone geology that defines so much of northern Italy. After days spent looking at natural stone in slabs, samples, and finished spaces, there’s something fitting about seeing where some of that material begins, not in an exhibition hall, but in mountains that are hard to take in at first glance.

Valpolicella: The Relaxed Option

If another few hours in a car sounds tiring, go north of Verona instead.

Valpolicella is close, beautiful, and much slower-paced than the fair. There are vineyards, historic villages, countryside, and plenty of chances to simply sit somewhere and enjoy being away from an exhibition hall for a few hours.

After a long day of meetings, that might be exactly what you need.

Marmomac is the reason you’re in Verona, so it should remain the priority.

If there’s an important meeting on the calendar, don’t skip it because you suddenly decided you have to see a lake before sunset. Instead, use the edges of your trip intelligently: arrive a little earlier, stay an extra day, or use a free afternoon.
